Lost Treasures of Angkor: Ancient Laos Revealed
2 x 60’ National Geographic Channels International, PBS, SBS, 1 x 90’ ARTE
A team of archaeologists investigate a stunning collection of exquisitely worked gold and silver temple artefacts found by a farmer in Laos, in Southeast Asia.
The team’s mission takes them from the vault where the treasure is stored to ancient temple sites deep in the jungle. Aerial scanning helps them target excavation sites where astonishing new discoveries are made – including a lost city, more gold and human remains.
The team explore an overgrown royal highway and embark upon a spectacular mountain ascent in the footsteps of ancient kings. The story of the treasure opens a window into the origins of the Khmer civilization that built the medieval megacity of Angkor, once one of the greatest cities on Earth – home of the great temple of Angkor Wat.
