Triple Threat

Triple Threat

8 x 30’ NZR+ and SKY NZ

An 8-part documentary series following the remarkable journey of three Gen Z athletes—New Zealand Black Ferns Jorja Miller, Maia Joseph, and Katelyn Vahaakolo, newcomers to the extraordinary pressure of a Rugby World Cup.

Shot behind the scenes in the Black Ferns camp and inside the three players’ lives, Triple Threat captures all the drama, resilience, and pride as these rising stars confront intense national expectations and the pressures of elite sport, both on and off the field.

From day one inside the Black Ferns camp to the World Cup pitch at Twickenham, we see the commitment to building mental strength alongside physical prowess: mindfulness, whānau support, and a culture that values mental resilience as much as strength and high performance. Through brutal squad selections, international test matches, and the relentless expectations of a nation, the series captures how their unique mindset helps power the team’s unity and ambition while embracing family, heritage, and the fierce legacy of the black jersey.

Against the dramatic backdrop of the Women’s Rugby World Cup, the series offers a fresh, personal insight into what it means to be a young female athlete today, where sport can be transformational, and mental strength and belonging fuel the pursuit of greatness.

Current New Zealand Supreme Rugby Player of the year Jorja Miller’s open desire to be the best rugby player in the world—male or female—along with Maia Joseph’s sacrificing of her medical studies to take up a Black Ferns contract and Kately Vahaakolo’s willingness to do anything to be the absolute best make compelling viewing as we follow the Black Ferns’ campaign to defend their Rugby World Cup title, won in front of world record crowds at Eden Park in 2022.  Now No.3 in the world, that will require an unprecedented Black Ferns’ effort—one that the Triple Threat is more than up for.

International rugby’s highest points scorer of all time, former All Black Dan Carter, current All Black No7 Ardie Savea and US superstar Ilona Maher—who has more online followers than any other rugby player in the world—also star in the series.
